Covert and Obscured

If you have been following my blog for a while you will recognise this dress as I have already showed it on my blog here. However, I finally got around to taking some photos of it on person for my portfolio and thought I'd show you as well as I think it looks far better on than on a mannequin. For details about how I made it etc. see my previous post here
I'm feeling extremely stressed out at the moment with only a week until my coursework deadlines (I feel like I'm about to explode!) so whether or not I'll be posting next week will depend on my progress. I actually find that I work best under pressure and when I'm stressed out anyway so hopefully it should turn out ok in the end.  Anyway, I better get back to my work...

Lace

My friend, Katie, recently gave me some spare fabric she had which included this lovely pink floral one and some white lace. As soon as I got it I knew exactly what I wanted to make and my inspiration was the Topshop and Zara slip dresses which I've been lusting after for a while now. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and if you fancy buying it I'm putting it in my shop here. I think this is the first time I've included these boots in an outfit post. I really love them and although I prefer to not wear them to sixth form because of the small heel, they're great for anything else and go perfectly with my white coat

Fringing

I spent part of yesterday tidying my bedroom (it had got so bad it was hard to even see the floor) and crossed some other things off my long to-do list. I'm feeling quite calm about my looming portfolio deadline but I'm sure next week I'll start having a panic attack every time I think about it or something. I also managed to post quite a few new things on my shop yesterday. I'm planning on going on holiday with some friends to Greece this year (hurry up summer!) and am therefore trying to save my money for it so I'd love it if you could have a quick check of my shop (you never know you might find your new favourite dress!).
On to my outfit and I'm wearing a top I received as a christmas present from my mum. She seemed to be working around a theme of velvet and fringing when buying me clothes (see my dress here) but I don't blame her as it's one of my favourite combinations! Isn't the colour of this top just incredible!? I'm wearing it with my River Island trousers I bought last year and my Office brogues.

What do you think of my top? What have you been doing recently?

Topshop Boots

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but every time I try and take photos it's either too dark, bad lighting or is pouring with rain outside. I took some outfit photos today but I decided I didn't like the outfit so I'm going to redo them tomorrow/saturday. In the meantime I have some photos of a new pair of shoes I bought from the Topshop sale. They were £35 down from £70 which I thought was quite a good discount for Topshop and considering I'll probably wear them alot. I've always been a big fan of cut out boots and I love how these ones have the buckles down the side and have a mix of black and brown leather.

Fantasies and Fairytales

So this is my final piece for my A2 textiles coursework. I'm very relieved it's all over though I've still got lots of work to do. We have to produce 2 outcomes for the project and this is only the first one!. During our sketchbook work we had to take inspiration from designers who we liked (Imelda Kartini and Ali Ferguson were my top 2) and create samples/observations based on these and images we collected. My theme was of course 'Fairytale and Fantasy' and my idea behind the dress was the good vs evil (so the front is all pretty/princess-y and the back more dark). Most of the fabric has been dyed/manipulated by me and I had to stitch all into the surface etc. which took a while. The piece is supposed to take about 12 hours to make and although there were a few issues along the way I managed to make it within this time. I wasn't particularly pleased with the dress to start with but it's slowly growing on me and hopefully if it's refined enough, I'll get a good mark for it (just need to make the second one now!). I did a whole fairytale photoshoot and there were loads of photos to chose from so I've tried to narrow it down to show you the best.
Let me know what you think....

Faux Fur

I recently went shopping with a few of my friends to Covent Garden and of course took a visit to Rokit. I was seriously impressed with the sale they had (especially so many cheap tartan and velvet pieces) and I worked my way through the rails of winter coats they had. The only jacket I've really worn throughout autumn/winter so far has been my leather one so I really wanted to buy one in a different style (even though there'll only be a few months left to wear it). I managed to find this really lovely faux fur one for £26. I am already in love with it and it goes with absolutely everything! One of the fantastic things about it is that I am able to wear it with black tights (black tights and black leather wasn't really working for me).I'm wearing my coat with a dress which I received as a christmas present. It fits so perfectly and is such a great piece for wearing casually or to be dressed up and the shape is slightly unusual which I really like.

What do you think of my coat? What things did you buy in the sales?

Alexander Wang

It was my first day back at school after the christmas holidays today so I'm very tired and attempting to catch up on all of my coursework (unproductively). Plus I was really disappointed to see that my Topshop shoes still haven't arrived so I've got my fingers crossed that I'll arrive home tomorrow to some exciting post.

I realised I hadn't done a designer post in a while so I thought it would be quite nice to do one (even if it is on a really well known designer). I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of Alexander Wang's work (it's not really my kind of thing) but his spring/summer 13 collection is by far my favourite.

Which are your favourite collections?
