Lucilla Gray and J Moon

Time has flown by so quickly this week, and it's only just occurred to me that I haven't taken any outfit photos. Since my last designer post was such a long time ago, I thought I'd take the chance to show you two really interesting designers that I discovered recently...

Lace and Suede

Although it's only January I've been thinking a lot about my summer wardrobe so I decided I'd get a head start and make this skirt and top. I actually used a commercial pattern for the skirt which I was given as a Christmas present. I never normally use a ready made pattern as I prefer to make my own to fit with my own designs, but I decided I'd give it a go and it was actually really interesting trying out new techniques (such as the slit at the front, and using 3 panels instead of 2/4). You can't see in these photos but the fabric is actually a suede material. It's also just occurred to me that I probably should have ironed my skirt before taking these photos! For the crop top, I used my own pattern this time, layering lace over a lining. I also decided to add flared sleeves as it's something that I've been searching for online recently.

Topshop Skirt

So it's been a stressful week or so what with uni applications and coursework deadlines, but thinking about my incredibly long summer is definitely helping get me through it all! I still have Christmas stuff to show you including this amazing top that my Mum bought me as a present. Although you can't tell in these photos it's slightly cropped which I absolutely love, and it's actually really quite unique in it's style. With some Christmas money in my pocket, I decided to have a quick look around the Boxing Day sales where I found a really lovely dress (post coming soon), and then spotted this skirt in Topshop. It wasn't actually in the sale unfortunately, so I still paid about £30 for it (quite a commitment for me), but I was so in love with the style that I couldn't resist. I'd found it so difficult to find a skirt just like this anywhere else and I convinced myself that as it was so simple and went with so many things, I'd wear it a lot. No regrets so far!

Pre-Exhibition Project

Over the Christmas holidays I've been mainly working on my Pre-Exhibition project and here is my final outcome. I decided to research into architecture, from which I focused in on art deco as my main theme. I'm not so keen on the top here in these photos as it needs a bit of adjustment so that it's not too loose but the skirt of the dress is probably one of my all time favourites! I started off with just plain calico, which I painted, dyed, stitched onto etc. and then paneled together.
