After toiles upon toiles upon toiles we've finally finished our final, completed toiles ready to be cut out in our fabric. I'm in charge of making the jeans, the poncho and the neoprene sweatshirt (we all have 3 garments to make each). It's also now the christmas holidays so we've all been given fabrics to source over the holidays so that we're ready for when we get back for the 2 week rush before our deadline.

So today we had our mid module presentation to Asos! We had to present in front of the two designers from Asos and then all of our tutors. Luckily they seemed to generally like our concept, and they were really keen especially on the laser engraving that we had created from my print. They did say however that the colour scheme needed some work on and they said we should use the colour from the laser engraved leather we had (a pinky, peach colour).

So we’ve been doing a lot of researching and design development the past couple of weeks for our menswear project. We’ve come up with a concept to do with video games (particularly apocalyptic ones) and technology which we’ve titled ‘Computerised Misfit’. We’ve also decided to create our own video game character called Xen who plays in our video game ‘Sosa’ (....yes that is Asos spelt backwards!). We’ve started to develop some really interesting designs and details, I’ve really been loving our circuit board work in particular and I’ve been in charge of designing some print ideas also which I think we’re going to use in our final garments.

I was right, it was Asos! We are designing a menswear collection for Autumn Winter 17 for Asos. They gave us a briefing about the company which was really interesting, particularly the different target markets that they have (Urban drape, indie rocker, basics, etc.) and they essentially explained how they wanted to appeal to all twenty-somethings so we’ve basically been given free reign to do whatever we want. Me and my group decided that we wanted to focus mainly on the urban drape target market, so thinking about longline, oversized, baggy clothing. I started to have a look on pinterest for some ideas...

We had our project briefing for our group menswear project today. We have to design a 28 piece collection for industry and make 4 outfits between the 6 of us. It’s quite daunting (especially since I’ve never done menswear before!) but I’m excited to design for a real life brand (we don’t know who it is yet but the rumour going around is that it’s for Asos...!) and try out something new.

Wow it's been such a long time since I last blogged, so I'll catch up on some of the things that have been going on the past 5 months....
I finished my first year at university in June and I still can't quite believe I've finished a 1/3 of my university life. I had a really really long 4 month summer before starting 2nd year. Luckily I managed to keep myself busy by experiencing my first ever festival, going to Greece and most importantly starting up my Depop shop. I'm so amazed by how well it's done and I found out that last week I had been ranked the 51st top seller on Depop! I've been selling my own handmade clothes on there - mostly made out of a lot of velvet and I can't quite believe it's done so well. Here are some photos from my shop...
lots and lots of velvet!

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post and I've been incredibly busy working for my deadline next week and then I'll have officially finished first year! I can't quite believe I've finished a year of university already, where did the time go!? Anyway, as I've been on a tight student budget the majority of my purchases have been on depop (my new obsession) which is where I bought these two Topshop crop tops. I've been meaning to buy some more basic tops for summer and managed to bag these two for myself.....

This dress is something I made a while ago (possibly last summer?..) with some left over fabric I had which I am absolutely in love with! It actually has a slight stretch to it so it was perfect for the style of dress I decided to make. I was experimenting a bit with bias binding at the time so added some decorative lines and created a racer style back which I think was really effective. I've been working on some flat pattern pieces to use for making garments over the summer so hopefully there should be lots of new things coming soon!

I haven't posted in a while since I've been working on my current project at university. The brief was to create a final outerwear garment based around your chosen theme (I chose to base mine around some photos I took on holiday in Iceland) and inspired by a designer you have chosen (I chose Bora Aksu) and from that I created this jacket for Spring/Summer 2017. I created my own print which I got printed onto fabric as you can see below. These photos are really bad quality and don't really show it in it's best light! but I'm actually really happy with the outcome.

I just wanted to show you this amazing top I bought for just £4 from Boohoo. I don't think these photos really do it justice, as it's so so pretty in real life. The only issue I've had is that since the fabric's so thin, it's hard to find something to wear underneath that doesn't completely ruin the look of it. But apart from that, it's perfect!
